Any solution to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict 'must be trilaterally acceptable’ - Pashinyan's address to Azerbaijani leader from UN General Assembly  

Any solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict must be trilaterally acceptable to cover comprehensively the opinions and choices of people in both Armenia and Azerbaijan and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.

Addressing Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, from the podium of the high-ranking international event, the Armenian leader said he had submitted his resolution also in the course of negotiations with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. “But the Azerbaijani authorities want a solution advantageous only to people in Azerbaijan,” he said, blaming also the Azerbaijani authorities for an unwillingness to enter into a dialogue with the Nagorno-Karabakh people.

“All they want is the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh without the people there. They are not willing to return the status which Karabakh enjoyed in the USSR period,” he said, calling upon Aliyev to accept the resolution as the only possible instrument paving way to peace.

“Any solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be acceptable to the people of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan. Hence we must work towards bringing the resolution to life,” he said.

As a major impediment to the peace efforts, Pashinyan referred also to Armenia’s closed border with Turkey.

The premier further took the chance to brief the state leaders and politicians attending the 74th session on the political changes in Armenia after last year’s “Velvet Revolution”. He elaborated particularly on the situation with freedom of press and the relationship with neighbors.
