Constitutional reforms: Cassation Court to be 'incorporated' into top judicial body

The draft constitutional reforms envisage a merger plan for incorporating the Cassation Court into the Constitutional Court of Armenia.

The preliminary version of the bill also contains a clause proposing a plan to vest every court with the power to rule on the constitutionality of any issue. Daniel Ioannisyan, a member of the commission of specialists elaborating the amendments, took to Facebook on Saturday to outline the key provisions in the document.

In his words, the model "has not yet been thoroughly discussed". The new judicial body thus created will be named the "Supreme Court". Ioannisyan says he backed the proposal "after long considerations".

"I am confident that the reform, if finally adopted, will make justice - particularly constitutional justice - more accessible and effective," the activist wrote.
