Deployment of international observers ‘right approach to resolve border crisis’ – Mher Grigoryan
Acting Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan on Tuesday hailed the plan to deploy international observers along Armenia’s eastern border with Azerbaijan, reaffirming the commitment to diplomatic efforts towards resolving the continuing standoff.
“Yes, we must do all our best to withdraw Azerbaijani contingents from our border zone through peaceful and diplomatic efforts, and I believe the deployment of international peacekeepers will be the right approach,” he told reporters at the National Assembly.
Not ruling out the possibility of future actions and reactions by Azerbaijan, Grigoryan said he nonetheless hopes a diplomatic solution will be eventually possible.
The deputy PM also dismissed any discussions on a possible handover of territories. He added that the negotiations are going on subject to the terms enshrined in the January 11 document (which makes no reference to any road corridor).
