Serzh Sargsyan: Road corridor plan 'totally ruled out'

Third President Serzh Sargsyan on Thursday dismissed the rumors about any plans for handing over a road corridor to Azerbaijan from Armenia’s territory.

At a meeting with supporters of his pre-electoral bloc, Sargsyan said he would “100% object to such a proposal” under any circumstances. “There isn’t any problem at all when it comes to the opening of regional communications, but a ‘road corridor’ is out of the question. Are we obliged or bound to give any corridor to them? Under what document or arrangement and what for?” the founder of I Have the Honor Alliance said.

Asked to comment on the possibility of any prior arrangement with either Turkey or Russia, the former president said he isn’t aware of such developments. “I am not aware of such a [pre-]arrangement. If and when we oust these [authorities], I assure you that nobody will ever think about such a corridor … We cannot possibly separate a part from our territory to say that it is passing under someone else’s control. It is ruled out,” he added.
